Who are you?

I work in the Department of Geography and theInstitute of Hazard, Risk and Resilienceat Durham University as a Reserch Fellow.

What is your role in the project?

Within the Eden Demonstration Test Catchment project, I am leading the ‘Catchment Characterisation’ work package. This piece of work is focused on developing an integrated understanding of the physical and social economic functioning of the River Eden catchment.  This will include how the rainfall interacts with the soil surface and how it then flows through the soil and rocks to the river channel. As the water is flowing, it will interact with chemicals in the soil and transport them to the river channel, where they may cause unwanted impacts.

What is your background?

My background is in the understanding of environmental processes. This has been based on catchment hydrological processes and includes water quality and ecological processes. This background has given me an in depth knowledge of surface hydrological and water quality processes in both temperate and semi-arid environments. I approach these issues through the design and implementation of environmental simulation models.
I am currently looking at risk based modelling of diffuse pollution as part of the SCIMAP project, climate change impacts on catchment dynamics and the future climate change impact on hazards including heatwaves.
