One of the four focus catchments of the Eden DTC programme is Newby Beck:

This catchment is split up into a mitigation zone and a control zone which have individual areas of approximately 2km square. On the map to the left, the mitigation sub-catchment is highlighted in green whereas the control sub-catchment is highlighted in yellow.

At the outlet of these sub-catchments, monitoring stations equipped with pressure transducers, McVan Analite 395 turbidity probes (housed in a flow-through cell), ISCO 3700 automatic water samplers and Time Integrated Mass-flux sampler (TIMs) have been installed. These stations are represented by a green dot on the catchment map.

Water from across the entire catchment is conveyed through the river networks and monitored at the catchment outlet. This monitoring station is represented by the red dot. This high-tech station is equipped with a Hack Lange NH4D SC Ammonium Sensor, Hach Lange Nitratax SC sensor and Hach Lange PHOSPHAX process photometer which measure the ammonium, nitrate and phosphate (TP and SRP) content of the river respectively. Additionally, a multiparameter YSI sonde measures the turbidity, ammonium, conductivity, temperature, pH, chlorophyll a and dissolved oxygen content of the river. An ISCO automatic water sampler, Sontek/YSI Argonaut SW doppler velocimeter, and Time Integrated Mass-flux sampler (TIMs) are also located here.
